ASSOCIUM was established as a consulting firm specializing in the areas of human resources management and organizational effectiveness.  Since 1984, ASSOCIUM Consultants has provided in-house, out-sourced, and independent consulting to private, public, and non-profit sector clients.  ASSOCIUM Consultants brings a broad range of industry and subject matter expertise to every project, and has developed a reputation for groundbreaking and outside-the-box thinking.

In 1995, ASSOCIUM surveyed non-profit organizations across Ontario and discovered that the sector identified business management support and cost containment as their greatest challenges.  In response to these findings, ASSOCIUM launched the GAIN Advantage Program in 1996.  GAIN’s mandate is to provide its members with access to competitively priced high-quality products and services in order to maximize their limited financial resources and further their ability to provide services to their clients.

In 1997, ASSOCIUM launched ASSOCIUM Benefits to provide an innovative and cost-effective alternative to existing employee group benefits programs.  ASSOCIUM Benefits works with each of its clients to identify their specific requirements and to develop a customized benefits solution.  These consulting services are supported by exemplary customer support and administration.

A Brief History of ASSOCIUM

Adrian Johnson, Principal, founds ASSOCIUM Consultants in 1984.

ASSOCIUM means to us "a place where people gather".

ASSOCIUM Consultants' name is based on two concepts. They are: people working in partnerships and the practice of socio-technical systems change.

ASSOCIUM Consultants combines the personal service of a small consulting firm with all the advantages of larger firms.

ASSOCIUM Consultants provides in-house and independent consulting, training, and outsourcing services.

ASSOCIUM Consultants provides services to all three economic sectors: business; government; and non-profit.

1995, ASSOCIUM Consultants surveys non-profit organizations across Ontario, discovering that the sector's greatest needs are support in business management and expense control.

1996, ASSOCIUM launches the GAIN Advantage Program for non-profit organizations. The concept, as it develops, is not only to save costs, so that revenue could be redirected to program delivery and staff salaries, but also to build capacity by offering advice and support where it is needed most.

1996, Strategic Utilization and Management of Human Resources (SUM HR®), ASSOCIUM Consultants' pioneering HR Outsourcing service is introduced.

1997, ASSOCIUM launches employee group benefits practice to provide an innovative cost component and service alternative.

1999, ASSOCIUM Consultants become the first to offer an enterprise class Human Resources Information System via the Internet, supported by the technology of ASL Consulting.

2000, Total Equity Management (TeM), is launched in partnership with AIZAN Technologies. This technology-based solution is specifically designed for organizations required to comply with the Government of Canada Employment Equity Legislation.

2000, ASSOCIUM acquires proprietary interest in eQ, a web-based authoring and learning management system and launches a national demonstration project for a department of the Government of Canada.

2001, Fair and Impartial Resolution (F.A.I.R.®) Services is introduced as a full-service approach to managing or preventing conflicts and disputes in the workplace.

2001, ASSOCIUM is nominated for the Ethics in Action Award - Ongoing Social Responsibility for work in the non-profit sector through the GAIN Advantage Program.
